It is commonly though those leaders with personality faults such as narcissism tend to be destructive for organisations because their focus is purely on the self. Undeniably narcissists can be just as destructive as corporate psychopaths and incompetent managers; however, there are actually certain types that can provide a strategic benefit to organisations. These “positive” narcissists have been shown to generate important strategic initiatives liked to clarity of vision that can provide guidance for employees and align corporate initiatives.

This presentation will consider the positive narcissists from the accepted leadership perspectives including transactional and transformative approaches. It will also contrast the potential negative aspects of narcissist within the context of more ethical leadership models that seeks to recognise followers as ends in themselves rather than as means to an end.
